Done & dusted Alpaca Hoodie (Sans Hood)

Tis done!

No more sweltering under alpaca fabric.

Completely sod’s law that dictates that the temperatures locally would soar whilst I handmake a sweater made from hollow fibre designed to trap air and heat it!!

As this garment can fit me I figure it should still fit my growing-like-a-weed offspring come Autumn. Plus, let’s be real, it’s Ireland, there will be at least a couple of occassions where she’ll feel the chill and may reach for her new snuggly sweater.

While this was intended to be a hoodie, offspring and lack of yarn conspired to change the design into a shawl collar sweater. (And in this weather sweat-er is a completely apt choice of word!).

Progress & Mindless Knitting

I needed some respite from the ego bashing that studying for my accounting exam induced so I cast on to ‘play’ with the Mirasol Hacho yarn. It’s purdy. Then I decided that a pair of mittens would be cool.

I cast on 56 stitches on 3.75mm DPN’s.

These are based on the same Jane Burns pattern (Bones) as ‘Megs Mittens’ and ‘My Mittens’. While based on her pattern, they will look nothing like hers 🙂

Both of these mitten pairs were made with Wendy Happy 4 ply in different colourways.

I cast on with the 307 colourway first and then changed to the 303 colourway after about 5cm (ish)

For anyone who happens to have a stack of Let’s Knit magazines and wants to find the pattern which inspired these mittens, you’ll find them in Issue 21 August 2009 on page 50.

While giving my poor noodle a break from statistics I managed to finish and cast off both sleeves for Megs Hoodie. It’s shaping up nicely. Methinks I shall have to redo the shoulder seams (I’m pernickity about having them neat) and I think I’ll leave picking up the stitches for the hood section until after my exams are done.

Now the only quibble is that I seem to have run out of yarn.

:le sigh:

So I’ll be paying a visit to Lena’s tomorrow to see if I can pick up more of the same dyelot. If this dyelot is unavailable, offspring let me know that it’ll be okay to use a different dyelot, just as long as it mostly matches. I had offered her the option of contrasting sleeve caps and a contrasting hood but she declined.

We shall see how it turns out.
