It’s all about the hats

My knitting of late that it.

Hats.

Adorable wee dinky ones intended for the cutie pie heads of newborn and toddler humans.

First off the needles was another Ear Flap hat. I’m quite happy with it. Though it will be a while before it fits my grandsons head.

It turned out a tad larger than I remembered. Plus, with all the dinky newborn clothing I’ve been looking at recently, I’ve realised that I’d forgotten just how small newborn babies heads generally are.

I like the look of the decreases on the top of the Ear Flap hat.

I will admit to having given into my fusspot tendencies and redid the back seam until I was happier with it.

For the non-knitters among you the above may be the best game of “Spot the difference” you’ve encountered in quite a while. I swear that the bottom image shows a neater seam. It’s not just me being a persnickety so-and-so.

Really.

Anyway.

Buttons looks none too impressed by the sight of my first Magic Coffee Baby Hat designed by Tracey Kay.

I, on the other hand, was beaming at it. I love it. The pattern calls for Aran weight yarn.  I had an abundance of DK weight yarn so that’s what I used. So instead of using the stitches for the 0 – 2 month size I had to use the stitch count for the 18 month – 3 year size. It’s dotey.

I'm also quite taken with the decreases at the crown of this hat.

The 3 inch i-cord adds a lovely touch. Here’s a link to the pattern which is a free download.

Those of you on Ravelry can find it here.

I can whip up one of these hats in a day. I have a third on the needles already. This may be my new favourite thing.

Happy crafting folks!
